My perfect drink for a cigar…Bourbon!

I know that every cigar guy has their favorite drink to compliment their smokes. A big majority of people prefer scotch on the rocks. I have always been more of a bourbon/whiskey guy. I find that it goes great with any of the strong full-bodied cigars I light up.cocktails and cigars

On the rocks or mixed? That seems to be the other big question in the cigar world…most aficionados always lean toward no mixers. I typically buy better bourbons but still mix them with diet coke. I know that kills a lot of the hardcore guys out there..but that’s how I like it. Thats was until now…paddleford creek bourbon

I recently found a very reasonably priced small batch bourbon at Total Wine in Orlando. It’s called “Paddleford Creek“. I attached the link to Total Wine’s website. The typical price is around $24, but it is only $19 there! The biggest reason I am highlighting this bourbon is because it is super smooth (Almost too smooth and light), and goes perfect on the rocks. I would grab a bottle if you can. It’s a small commitment.

In conclusion… JK highly recommends!  I wouldn’t say its the best bourbon I’ve had, but it’s great for someone tryng to transition away from mixing their high-end liquor. I’ll make some future posts on my top bourbons soon.

Great golf cigar… La Flor Dominicana Cameroon Cabinet Chisel

It’s a tough balance when choosing a cigar for the  golf course. You want something that will be hearty enough to handle the sport, while still delivering the type of strength and taste you prefer in a smoke. I think the Chisel by La Flor Dominicana is the perfect golf cigar.

I’ve had different versions of this unique “Chisel” shape in the past. The Cameroon Cabinet Chisel is my favorite  “Chisel” of them all. The flat end makes it the perfect smoke to sit in you mouth while hitting the links. I think the Cameroon Cabinet has a great taste and smokes perfectly from start to finish.

The burn is slow and the pull is actually pretty smooth considering the tight opening. Dont be scared away by the look of this cigar. La Flor Dominicana has packed it full of solid tobacco and you will really enjoy this cigar.

In Conclusion…JK recommends. This is a great smoke and works perfect for the aficionado on the links. I grabbed these smokes at Ol’ Times in Cassleberry. Stop by and grab a couple if you get a chance.

Davidoff’s “Year of the Snake” 2013….a classic style smoke

The Davidoff Brand has a reputation for very high end cigars that carry a large amount of elegance and sophistication.  I know certain people that won’t pay the price to try the limited edition blends that Davidoff comes out with and it’s their loss. The Year of the Snake (Made in connection with the Chinese New Year and Year of the Snake)  is another good one by Davidoff and I’m very happy to say I got a chance to try one of these rare smokes yesterday. year of the snake cigarI always go to Cigarz on the Avenue, in Winter Park FL, when I want to get a special cigar. It’s owner, Don, never disappoints and always hands me something great. Yesterday he handed me the Davidoff Year of the Snake to try out with my father and cousin.year of the snake davidoff cigar

The cigar was purposely made in the classic cuban churchill size (7×48)..and thats not where the similarities end. Most cubans that I’ve smoked have great balance and refinement. This cigar gave the same feeling throughout. The strength was more on the medium side but had very good flavor and smoked extremely well. The contrcution was great with an eye-catching band. The ash was solid and the pull was perfect. This is one of those smokes that lives up to the limited edition name.davidoff year of the snake

In conclusion…JK recommends.  I always prefer a full-bodied cigar, so it takes a lot for me to endorse a medium or light cigar. This one is a solid. Try and find one if you can. Most online shops are sold out, so it will probably cost you $30+ at local retailers.
